Welcome, from our family to yours!

I'm pleased that you are interested in learning more about Nanaimo Innovation Academy. We've created something different and special with the potential to grow, eventually, into an elementary school. Nanaimo Innovation Academy was founded in 2018 to establish a daycare that utilized the best practices from various educational philosophies-- Waldorf, Montessori, Reggio, Whole Child Education, Play-based Learning-- without being limited by the rigidity of ascribing to just one philosophy. By being flexible and in constant evaluation of what is best for child development, we can innovate and create a program designed for our students' current needs, interests, and growth.

We focus on the best possible ways to support you and your child, by finding new and innovative ways to engage and promote your child's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. We help your child grow into an independent and confident student ready to embrace the challenges of elementary school.

We teach the value of community. Our teachers will feel like family. There will be communal potlucks, guest speakers for the whole family, and outdoor excursions at various times throughout the year. Enrollment is purposely limited, so that they receive all the attention and support needed. Child to teacher ratios are kept low, as relationship-building with our teachers is a key aspect to supporting your child’s development. Teachers use constructive guidance and positive reinforcement to guide the children in feeling successful and included while interacting with their peers and others around them.

We value the natural environment and encourage sensitivity, respect, and understanding for all forms of life. Children will learn where their food comes from, issues of environmental sustainability, and will be exposed to Nanaimo's various ecosystems. We believe that getting dirty in nature is an inalienable right.

We put children before profits. Nanaimo Innovation Academy is a non-profit daycare. Any revenue generated will go back into the daycare to ensure that our facilities and play equipment are top-notch, and our staff are adequately compensated and provided with professional development opportunities. One of our future fundraising goals is to be able to offer grants from our daycare to families in need of financial support.

If you are looking for a unique daycare experience and want to be a part of supportive community, I encourage you to apply now
